John Ceiriog Hughes

John Ceiriog Hughes (1832-1887) was a Welsh poet, well known as a collector of Welsh folk tunes.

His song lyrics include Dafydd y Garreg Wen ("David of the White Rock") and Clychau Aberdyfi ("The Bells of Aberdyfi"). He also wrote the Welsh words to the song, "God Bless the Prince of Wales". Like many Welsh poets, he took a bardic name - "Ceiriog" - from Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, in Denbighshire, where he was born. In his home village, the public library contains a memorial inscription to him.
